Congratulations RUBY SUTHERLAND on winning the Schoolgirl Head Of The River Para 1x on Saturday at the Sydney International Regatta Centre. Ruby raced for PLC Croydon but did all her training under the watchful eyes of her coaches at the Balmain Para Program.
Ruby trained hard for this race and for the last few months spent early mornings on the river before school and when the weather stopped that on-water work she happily jumped on the erg and worked intensely. Her training was aimed at having Ruby at her peak for the race and at her peak she was. Her hard work, dedication and intense training regime paid off and not only did she win but did so bettering her PB by 23 seconds.
The raceplan was simple and Ruby executed superbly concentrating for the last hundred metres on keeping it long and under control. Having finished Ruby’s comment shows how much she wanted this win
“my arms were numb, my legs were numb but I knew I could do this and I wasn’t going to stop until I hit that line first and my finish hooter went”,
thats the tough spirit we see and expect from our athletes in our program.
Way To Go Ruby!
